Boohoo dress of the month

Individuality is what makes fashion and personal style so fun. We already know that finding unique one off treasures are guaranteed to make you stand out from the crowd, but that doesn't mean you can't work your own individual style into pieces from the high street without looking exactly the same as everyone else. It's about making it work for you and putting your own spin on a look. I was approached by Boohoo to style their dress of the month, I had no idea what it was I was going to receive in the post which was slightly scary for me as I have quite a set style and sometimes I don't like to try new things. When I opened my parcel, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised and couldn't wait to play around styling this dress and seeing how the other fashion bloggers wore the same dress in their own way too. Sometimes the best style inspiration comes from seeing how others wear and style things differently to how you might, and I think it's a great way to discover new ways of doing things.

Boohoo set the bloggers the challenge of styling a dress that might not be our usual style to show that it pays to switch it up a bit. It's about embracing new trends, ignoring the 'rules' of fashion and leaving your comfort zone. I would never have chosen this dress for myself, but I'm now more likely to pick out things that I wouldn't normally go for. I kind of feel like one of those women on the makeover shows on TV that always end up saying the same thing, but it really is true!

The dress was originally a maxi shirt dress style, but I didn't find that look particularly flattering on me, and it wasn't very 'me'. With Boohoo encouraging us to break the rules and do our own thing, I took the dress and decided to give it a slight nip and tuck at the front showing a little extra leg for a more dramatic look and unique take on it. As soon as I saw the dress it gave me all the autumn vibes, so I drew inspiration from that and went for a deep berry lip to compliment the colours. As the dress is such a statement, I kept the jewelry to a minimum, and went for neutral accessories.

Has this encouraged you to buy something out of your comfort zone? I'd highly recommend giving it a go even if you are unsure. I think it paid off for me, and I received a lot of compliments when my friends saw me doing something a little bit different.
