How to style summer denim

Keeping summer denim stylish

Don’t panic – summer denim doesn’t have to be all tiny hot pants and see-through white jeans. In fact, there is a sophisticated way to wear denim during the summer months and Trilogy are here to tell you just how to pull it off whilst staying in line with some of the hottest trends right now.

The look: straight is in and skinny is out

Just like all seasons, as we enter summer, we welcome new shapes and trends. It’s the perfect opportunity to experiment with these new shapes, higher rises and looser legs across the board. Fashion is now championing a straight silhouette and a more relaxed fit – and this is fantastic news as we move into summer, where skinny legging-like fits can often feel clingy, restrictive and uncomfortable.
The beauty of straight legged jeans is that they are more forgiving on your curvy hips, fuller thighs and thick calves. They are cut straight from the knees down, so provide a similar look to ankle-hugging skinny jeans on top with a looser fit between the knee and ankle. It’s possibly a more comfortable fit, creating a different silhouette.
When styling a pair of straight leg jeans, Trilogy suggest taking your usual size, as you want to keep the silhouette slim (but not tight) through the hips and thighs and avoid the baggy, loose look you’d get from a boyfriend jean. Cropped straight leg jeans can be paired with heels and flats alike, depending on the look you are going for. Embroidered blouses or classic shirts create a luxe yet laid-back feel too.

The look: white jeans are a staple

White denim jeans have been a summer staple for several years now, and 2017 is no exception. However, with summer 2017, we welcome more alternatives than ever before in this category, from skinny to cropped flares. A straight legged style is a modern way to adapt this summer staple, thanks to its high-rise and cool released hem.
Whilst white denim is perfect for everyday style when the sun is shining, for weekends why not style with a chambray or colourful striped shirt tucked in for an effortless vibe? Dress up with boho, beaded blouses or off-the-shoulder tops for a chic, statement outfit.

The look: vintage denim

Vintage is back, and everyone seems to be happy about it. Vintage denim and authentic, lived-in washes are sticking around for SS17. Many brands have brought out ‘vintage’ collections to cater to demand, blending original fabrics with added comfort stretch for a modern feel and softer, lighter handle for summer. This trend for heritage-feel jeans isn’t going anywhere, so invest now if you haven’t already.
With vintage denim has come embellishment and embroidery. It has become one of the season’s biggest trends and the favourite way to wear an embroidered piece is to pair it with faded true-blue washes.
Modern vintage jeans that skim the calves with roll up the cuffs can be paired with sandals or sliders. However, it goes without saying that if you’d rather dress up, then pair with a pair of barely-there heeled sandals to finish your look.
