Tips for Planning the Perfect Holiday in the Sun

How many days' holiday do you get every year? If you work for an employer, it’s probably twenty, maybe a few more if you’re lucky. If you work for yourself, that number might be even smaller; all the more reason to make sure that every holiday you take is perfect. It’s also likely to be a big expense, so you want to plan it right to get the best value for your money. If you’d like to spend a few of those days in the sunshine, here are some tips to help make it happen.

Where to Get Your Inspiration
It’s all too easy to rush to the nearest travel agent and bring home a bag full of the latest brochures. Of course, you’re going to need somewhere to stay when you get to your holiday destination, but there are lots of other factors to bear in mind. You’re far better off doing some research using the internet. You’re far more likely to find something really different, with ample opportunities for creating meaningful memories. Instagram is a great place to look for ideas or to get a better feel for a place you quite fancy but know nothing about. There are also plenty of travel sites and blogs that feature accounts of a variety of locations.

What do You Want from Your Holiday?
People choose to go on holiday for a variety of reasons. They might be looking for an opportunity to escape their normal routine and experience something out of their comfort zone. Perhaps they’re looking to explore new cultures. The chance to taste different food could be another reason. Whatever your reason might be, you need to decide what you want to get out of your holiday as this will help you make the right decision.

If you’re looking to escape your normal busy routine, then you need to find somewhere that’s peaceful and relaxing. Are you a thrill seeker that’s chasing the next adrenaline rush? Think about exploring different cultures with some exciting activities included in your itinerary. Would you prefer to spend time with your family, renewing your bonds and enjoying new experiences together?

A Staycation or Abroad?
If it’s sunshine you’re looking for, then you might need to look a little further than the UK, unless you’ve got a crystal ball and can predict when the next bout of sunshine is going to bathe the country. The UK is a very beautiful place to enjoy a holiday and there are plenty of clean, sandy beaches for you to relax on. The sun, however, can be a little unpredictable.
For warmer weather and predictable sunshine, travelling abroad is the only sensible answer. As well as guaranteed sunshine you’ll be experiencing different cultures and tasting new food. There will also be opportunities to explore the countries architecture, history and landscape.

When is the Best Time to Book?
The jury is out on this question, and it’s really a case of personal choice. Booking early or last-minute both have their pros and cons. If you book sooner rather than later, you’ll be able to take advantage of early booking discounts and pick the dates you want to travel. On the flip side, you can also get some great last-minute deals, although you won’t get so much choice when it comes to dates.
It’s also worth mentioning that you can get some great deals by booking your accommodation and flights separately. You’ll have more freedom and could even find a better deal. When it comes to booking your flight, there are a number of comparison websites where you can compare prices.

Type of Accommodation
There are plenty of choices when it comes to your holiday accommodation. What’s available depends on where you’ve decided to go. Check out bed-and-breakfast accommodation, hotels, beach huts or luxurious Florida villa holidays for added privacy. With breath-taking views, all your home comforts, barbecue, private pool and lavish surroundings, you’re certain to enjoy the perfect holiday in the sun you’ve been dreaming of.

Sun Safety
Don’t get carried away and forget about sun safety. Strong sunlight and extreme temperatures can be dangerous to your health. There is the risk of sunstroke and sunburn, so always dress for the weather in loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing. Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun with a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Follow the tips above and you’re almost certain to enjoy your holiday in the sun this year and for several years to come.
